Return to Freedom is dedicated to preserving the freedom, diversity and habitat of America's wild horses through sanctuary, education, and conservation, while enriching the human spirit through direct experience with the natural world.

We are in desperate need of hay. Please Make a Donation to help us feed and care for the more than 400 wild horses who call Return to Freedom their life-long home.
A host of Tours, Safaris, Events, and other programs help us to care for our horses, as well as give you an opportunity to meet them in ways that will replenish your soul.
The goal of the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, founded by Return to Freedom in 2004, is to protect America’s wild horses by stopping their systematic eradication.
Neda DeMayo founded Return to Freedom more than 15 years ago. In the Founder's Blog, Neda shares her spiritual, as well as hands-on, knowledge of wild horses.
The Ambassadors
Spirit was used as an inspiration and model for the artists and animators during the making of the 2002 DreamWorks animated film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Isadora-Cruce is a Medicine Hat brown and white overo and was born at Return to Freedom in July 2002. Her mother was Sonora-Cruce, a foundation mare.
Sutter has become one of our greatest teachers and reminds us that when we extend love, we receive it. He was captured from public lands when he was a year old.
Freedom is a lead stallion with an independent spirit that no one can take away. Born in 1999, Freedom arrived with Mystic’s herd, but now governs his own band.

Return to Freedom is home to some very special horses, including Spirit, the horse portrayed in the major motion picture by the same name. Other famous horses live here, too, and you can read all about them.
Along with spearheading The American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign and Coalition, RTF has rescued individual wild horses out of dire circumstances. Even 'lost' horses find their way to our sanctuary.
From action-based events to horse clinics, from photography workshops to galas, from wine-tasting to celebrity appearances, and everything in between, RTF has got an event especially for you!
Our expansion will include a permanent National Conservancy where bonded herds can live safely and undisturbed for generations to come.
Young people can make a difference! There are many ways that you and your friends, classmates, groups or communities can help America's last wild horses.
