American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act Passed by Overwhelming Majority |
||||
| The indomitable spirit of the horse and the voice of the American people prevailed against commerce and special interest on Thursday, September 7th. After 5 years of being blocked and stalled in Committees, the US House of Representatives finally voted on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (HR 503). It passed by an overwhelming majority of 263 to 146! This is an incredible victory and a historic moment for America’s wild and domestic equines. Thank you to all of you who took action on behalf of the horses, and to our champions in Congress: Congressmen John Sweeney, John Spratt, Nick Rahall, and Ed Whitfield. They shepherded the bill through enormous opposition and secured a winning vote. Now we have the Senate battle to face. Let’s use the momentum gained to keep moving forward to a better future for America’s wild and domestic horses. Please contact your Senators and tell them how pleased you are that this bill has passed in the House, and that you urge them to support the bill (S 1915) in the Senate. Please be diligent in your efforts to contact your 2 Senators. We’ve
come so far for the horses . . . let’s not lose our stride in the
final stretch. You can find your Senators at www.senate.gov.
